On Monday night Audrey was admitted to the hospital for a bladder/kidney infection that went septic (into her blood). We noticed that her urine was really stinky on Saturday, but we thought maybe it was something I ate (I'm nursing her). On Monday she had a fever of 101.5 and she would not nurse at all. I panicked because i was worried about her getting dehydrated or having a seizure from a fever. She has been on I.V. antibiotics since then. They had to take her IV out today, because her foot was getting swollen. Instead of putting in a new IV site, they decided to switch to antibiotic shots. I need to bring her in to the clinic tomorrow and saturday, and then we will switch to oral antibiotics. She will have to be on antibiotics for 4 weeks, and then have a procedure called a VCUG, which is when the put dye into her urethra, and watch where the urine is going, to see if it is getting refluxed back up into the bladder. If she is not emptying out all the way, bacteria can collect in the urine, hence resulting in an infection. So we won't know why she got the infection until that procedure which is June 22nd.

Joey was a lucky boy and got to stay a night at Grandma B's and Grandma Nancy's. Derek took vacation days and we are now all home together for the next few days. Mommy got to eat hospital food once again and see all the great VRMC OB/Peds staff. I must say that I am so thankful we have our hospital and that the care we received from the staff and Dr. Madan was wonderful. I hope whoever reads this will share our story and say that we had great service and care locally. Especially with having family close and another child at home to worry about. I know this whole thing isn't over with yet, I'm not sure what we will have to deal with in the future. We'll worry about that when the time comes.

Our little Audrey perked up and was still smiling even though she was poked everyday for blood.

Thanks for the phone calls, e-mails and visits from everyone. I have a feeling I just might lose it now that we are home and we can relax a little bit. Mom's gotta stay strong and brave for everyone right?

Prior to the hospital stay we did celebrate my mom's birthday with a bbq and cupcakes from auntie sally and rice krispie bars that joey helped make. Happy birthday mom! hopefully we didn't add too many gray hairs this week!
