change in status

Well, we got a call on friday from the nurse at the clinic and they wanted another urine sample and blood work. they had culutred her urine from wednesday, and she still had e.coli, so they changed her antibiotic, and her doctor wants her to get in sooner to the pediatric urologist. So we managed to get an appointment on june 10th, when we will be in the cities anyway. not sure what they will do at this appt. but glad to meet with someone who soley works in kids urology. arghh. derek and i have been smelling diapers now every time we change her to see if her pee stinks. such a bonding experience!
we went to duluth sunday and joey enjoyed blue cotton candy. derek is in major pain in this picture because of his mad sun burn on his shoulders and back he acquired saturday.
it was very hot in virginia, but not so hot in duluth.

before going to duluth, the skubic gang stopped by and we were able to hang out.

we are always glad to see these guys. erin helped out and tried to give audrey a bottle. lets hope i don't have to quit my job like jen. we've got 3 weeks to nail the bottle..then mom heads back to work. =(

2 month check up

Today Audrey had her 2 month check up. Her infection is gone, but she is still on antibiotics until june 22nd (at least-maybe longer) until she has her VCUG, the procedure that can tell us if there is anything phsyiologically wrong that would have caused the bladder/kidney infection. The doctor was happy with her growth, 90th % for height and 75th for weight. She has grown and is doing well. She is a happy baby who loves to smile and "talk".

The art of photography...trying to get both kids to look and smile at the same time!
Joey loves his little sister (finally!) and wants to hold her all the time.. See below for how well that goes...

Happy Memorial weekend everyone!

Blast from the past

Guess where this graffiti was written....

The Aysta's kitchen! my parents have torn apart their kitchen and are re doing everything. I had to tease them a little bit because they are debating between beige and....beige for colors.. Color makes them nervous..

See choices of paint to the left..They are thinking of doing 2 different colors in the kitchen and then a different one in the living room. stay tuned for the "all done" photos.

Better Days

Celia got to hold Audrey for the first time! She also got a lesson in breast feeding... lets hope i didn't scar her for life with my responses to her questions..."where's the straw? is there a cup in there? how does she get the milk?"
It was opening fishing this weekend. Grandpa helped Joey get his fishing rod all set. Unfortunately all he caught was a cray fish! Maybe we should go into business and send them down to new orleans...

Audrey enjoyed her first day at the lake! We are looking forward to many more. We started her first dose of oral antibiotic..didn't go so great..we'll try again tonight.

A happy boy!

Hospital stay

On Monday night Audrey was admitted to the hospital for a bladder/kidney infection that went septic (into her blood). We noticed that her urine was really stinky on Saturday, but we thought maybe it was something I ate (I'm nursing her). On Monday she had a fever of 101.5 and she would not nurse at all. I panicked because i was worried about her getting dehydrated or having a seizure from a fever. She has been on I.V. antibiotics since then. They had to take her IV out today, because her foot was getting swollen. Instead of putting in a new IV site, they decided to switch to antibiotic shots. I need to bring her in to the clinic tomorrow and saturday, and then we will switch to oral antibiotics. She will have to be on antibiotics for 4 weeks, and then have a procedure called a VCUG, which is when the put dye into her urethra, and watch where the urine is going, to see if it is getting refluxed back up into the bladder. If she is not emptying out all the way, bacteria can collect in the urine, hence resulting in an infection. So we won't know why she got the infection until that procedure which is June 22nd.
Joey was a lucky boy and got to stay a night at Grandma B's and Grandma Nancy's. Derek took vacation days and we are now all home together for the next few days. Mommy got to eat hospital food once again and see all the great VRMC OB/Peds staff. I must say that I am so thankful we have our hospital and that the care we received from the staff and Dr. Madan was wonderful. I hope whoever reads this will share our story and say that we had great service and care locally. Especially with having family close and another child at home to worry about. I know this whole thing isn't over with yet, I'm not sure what we will have to deal with in the future. We'll worry about that when the time comes.

Our little Audrey perked up and was still smiling even though she was poked everyday for blood.

Thanks for the phone calls, e-mails and visits from everyone. I have a feeling I just might lose it now that we are home and we can relax a little bit. Mom's gotta stay strong and brave for everyone right?

Prior to the hospital stay we did celebrate my mom's birthday with a bbq and cupcakes from auntie sally and rice krispie bars that joey helped make. Happy birthday mom! hopefully we didn't add too many gray hairs this week!

Taylor Swift!!

Derek got my tickest to Taylor Swift for a Chirstmas present. So my friend Kelly and Erin came with me. We stayed at the Embassy Suites and had a good girl's night. Derek survived with Audrey, she took the bottle just fine.
We had really good seats, my camera didn't take great pictures..hopefully Erin will put better pictures up on her blog.

She put on a fantastic show with lots of costume changes. It was a very fun night. Thanks girls!

Out of order..but we went and had some food and drinks prior to the concert in St. Paul. Fun times!

My friend Stacey had a baby girl three days after Audrey was born..Maedi is to the left and Audrey to the right. It has been nice having someone to share post partum stories with and get out and exercise. I finally have someone up north that enjoys running like I do!
Audrey Ann has started to smile! Her daddy and Joey can get her to smile and coo better than I can...no fair!

She is a healthy chunky monkey!

We ordered some dirt to fix our lawn. we managed to get it spread out on one side of the house today. our son actually was getting mad at us, because we weren't going outside fast enough to "do work". i hope that sticks with him through highschool!
