Hurricane update

I just talked to Lindsey at 8:00 tonight. They were in the car, heading to Baton Rouge, to their friend Emily's friend's house. Lindsey said it is quite an experience. The mayor was on the radio saying to get out of the city. She said Katrina had a radius of 300 miles, and this storm has radius of 900. She said the 100 mph winds are expected to reach Baton Rouge, so that city might be evacuated as well. Her friend Emily's parents live in Texas, and if need be, they'll drive the 8 hrs there. She said they were at a stand still for about 2 hours on the road, but traffic is finally moving now. They put their stuff up high in their house, in plastic containers and are hoping for the best. Please keep them in your thoughts, I can try and update as I hear.

Thanks for the update Shelley, Kathie called this morning to ask what I knew...I hope she checks this blog!! It seems like such a lark to have to evacuate, road-trip, stock up on supplies, etc., but in reality Gustav is a killer storm and I sure hope it doesn't hit as bad as they are predicting. Please keep us posted when you can, because I really want to know that they are safe!!! Thanks! GAS

Hey guys-it's binzer....yesterday the mayor pretty much freaked everyone out and wanted everyone to heed his warning to leave. It is hopefully going to continue getting smaller as it is a Category 3 now....earlier it was supposed to be a 5, but remember KAtrina was a 3 and this one is predicted to hit Western New Orleans, where the levies are still not stellar. So yes, it is high stress for everyone and we are just hoping for the best......We are staying in Baton Rouge and will begin feeling effects from the storm tonight....

just remember, it's not that the wind is blowin'...it's what's blowin' in the wind.

we were wondering how they were doing.
Will keep them in our thoughts as the storm goes through. Hopefully it will settle down and it won't be as bad as originally predicted.
It is good though for hte mayor to scare everyone, that is the only way to get the people to leave to ensure their safety.
Take care!!

Okay, did you guys have to leave Baton Rouge? I've been watching today and it looks like Gustav spent his wrath and is moving west into Texas. Any idea when you can head back home? You'll have to tell us which parish you live in....it looks like the surge has been blowing water over a couple of levees, which are still holding....hope the worst is over!! GAS

Lindsey & Brian are still in BR, without electricity, and eating the perishable foods first! They had wind gusts over 90 miles per hr, which tore the electric wires off the house they are staying in. They are safe, however, and will return to NO when allowed. We spoke about 3 time yesterday, during the storm. So glad its over! Becky

If you click on google maps, New Orleans, Lindsey & Brian are: South of Lake Pontchartrain, South of City Park Golf Course in the little triangle, at the intersection of St ANn St and N Solomon St, in the triangle south of the intersection, just above the blue roofed house. B
